Simply power your camera in Google Maps, and the app will overlay information on top of the real world. Google says it updated the app over 25 billion times in the last three years using information from Street View.Īdditionally, Google uses Street View imagery to power the Live View feature that brings an augmented reality (AR) experience to Google Maps. It even collects new seed limit information. Street View can inform Google’s algorithms about new opened businesses and opening hours for shops and restaurants. It then uses that information to update the Google Maps information that users might be looking for. Google uses artificial intelligence to extract data from Street View photos automatically. Today, we’re introducing three new Google Maps features that will help make sharing and finding local recommendations and information easier. To exit out of Satellite view, go to Menu, then tap Satellite again. This community of contributors who help others by updating Google Maps has reached a new milestone: 150 million Local Guides around the world. A satellite view of your physical location should automatically pop up. It's located toward the bottom of the page. It's in the upper-left corner of the screen. Adjust the date using the time slider to step back in the year you want. Perhaps more interesting than exploring the historical Street View images on Google Maps is what Google does with the information in those photos. It's the app showing a map with a 'G' in it.
